Mid Essex Exercise Referral Scheme

The Exercise Referral scheme, which is supported by Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group, provides a personalised exercise programme for adults (16 years+) who are referred by their GP or practice nurse.

This is a subsidised 12-week scheme which will help to:

  1. Improve your health, with the aim of preventing or reducing the onset of illness
  2. Increase energy levels, strength and fitness
  3. Help lose, gain or maintain weight
  4. Provide a sense of achievement, improving self esteem and confidence
  5. Relieve stress and tension
  6. Provide opportunity to meet and socialise with new friends

Who can take part?

Reasons for referral include those with:

  • Family history of coronary heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Stress, anxiety or depression
  • High cholesterol levels
  • Poor lifestyle (diet, smoking, sedentary, overweight)
  • Asthma
  • Osteoporosis
  • Diabetes (Type 1 & 2)
  • Arthritis
  • Angina
  • Muscle, ligament and joint injuries
  • Obesity / overweight
How does it work?
  1. You must be referred by a GP or a nurse before starting the scheme.
  2. Arrange an initial appointment by visiting or contacting your desired centre location (please see the location tab for address and contact details)
  3. An initial assessment of your fitness will be carried out and your instructor will assist you in completing a Exercise Referral questionnaire.
  4. You will then receive a 12 week personalised exercise programme that is tailored to your fitness level, lifestyle and goals you want to achieve.
  5. You will be shown how to safely use all of the equipment in the gym during a one-hour induction.
  6. A specially qualified staff member will help you get started on the programme through a one-to-one supervised session lasting an hour.
  7. You will receive a 30-minute review of your programme at weeks 4 and 8.
  8. A final assessment review will be carried out at week 12 on completion of the Exercise Referral programme.  Your health, fitness and quality of life should have improved, and your doctor will be notified of your progress.
  9. You will be encouraged to continue your exercise regime long-term with ongoing support from our friendly fitness team.


At woMEn TIME we understand that not everyone wants to run competitively or for a fast time. We cater for all levels of motivation and ability and ensure that everyone gets the same warm welcome.

Some of our ladies like to chat and run and some just want to chat after. So whether your looking for that new ParkRun time or just the motivation to get up and go, we are the running group for you.

One session is coached and one is just a group of motivated ladies who meet for a run after starting our couch to 5km group 4 years ago!

Park RUN

To keep you occupied why not try Park RUN? Park RUN is a 5km run, jog or walk that you can use to train or to get fit as part of your routine.

Park RUNNERS will help you focus on improving your running technique, stamina, speed, interval training and overall strength and conditioning.

Sessions are held predominately on our synthetic floodlit outdoor track, as well as local parks. The indoor track facilities are included for physical preparation sessions to strengthen the body to become a better runner.
Sessions are suitable for adults and children above 8 years.

This sessions is for the mind and Body. Pilates aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and wellbeing.

How to book

1. You do not need to pre-book, but please be aware places are limited and demand is high
2. Classes are on a first come first serve basis.
3. Payments will be taken at the theatre box office in (cash only) before the class commences.
4. The instructor is will need to know if you have any medical conditions or requirements prior to the class starting.
5. You will not be able to attend the session if you are late and have missed the warm up as this is a vital part of the session to prevent injury.
6. Please ensure you wear suitable and comfortable clothes for exercising e.g. no jeans

Small Group Training

Have you ever wanted personal training, but cannot afford the cost? Well now you can from as little as £5 per week! Get yourself in shape with our 6 week small group training sessions held at:

Sessions will include:

  • Dietary advice
  • Full health check
  • Kinesis, TRX and functional zone (Equipment used will vary dependant on course goals)
  • Small supportive group (max 6 people with like minded goals)
  • Personalised SGPT booklet

All under the guidance of your Personal exercise instructor
